Emptiness is one of the earlier “Electro-Acoustic Realizations!”
The Acoustic tracks were recorded in the 90s and prior.
The Electronic tracks were recorded then & at different times.
This “Realization” was realized Jan …18 2001.
This entailed a series of spontaneous evolutions one or two in a day. In a performance like atmosphere of immediacy the results you hear were brought about without preparation.
The main theme we hear opening Emptiness 1 is the Z Tar an unusually rare Stringless Guitar type Electronic Instrument made in the 80s to 90s by Starr in San Diego.
The Steinway Grand Piano, various percussion, Double Bass, Prophet 5, voice, altered cymbals & singing bowls, Tape Manipulation, the “Wine Glass Mirror” an original instrument made by Antonin, Aztec Ceramic Drums, Garbage rustling, Digital Sampling glitzing, Percussion Ensemble, OBXa, Prepared World and Classical Instruments, Bowed Metal, Mutated Hard Disc Recorder, Waterphone, Lion Headed Javanese Wood Flute, Toy Piano parts, Electric Bass from 1981, Unplayed Electric Guitar, Prepared Oud & Cumbus, Prepared Kalimba, Toy Guitar, Foot Steps, Cassette Tape Glitches, Short Wave Radio, Bamboo Flute, Tabla, Sound Board Drawing, Pigmy Tribe, Ocarinas, Piccolo, Answer Machine, Found Tapes, Friction Fabrics, Gong, Analogue Synthesis, Treatments, Unwritten Text, Jaw Harp, Micro-tonics, C. The “Realization” of experiencing the setting in motion a series of events gives us the feeling of being outside time or being without duration.
This is the focus of the stream- where there is only a series of events occurring without end hence we are unable to assimilate or label this reality we are experiencing…
If focused one is not label- we are free from judging- this brings us into a deeper connection- in contacting to the ground –underneath the resonance factor of the mixture- under streaming events lies the unifier…
The Unity is within you! This is the essence of “Realization!”

Then there is a knowable possibility for originality in every aspect of life not just art, poetry, music, meditation, craftsmanship, design etc…
But also in being in body awareness…
Everything technological then be applied to extend the voice…
The events of “REALIZATION” are cultivating the original voice here in being applied to the recording studio as a musical instrument unto itself…

Cosmic Impulse is a totally Electronic music composition realized July … 28 2021 and inspired by this project of returning to this medium to share these rarely heard pieces on Avante Antonin channel.
In a sense this too is a “Realization” but all i do can be construed as such.
The Impulse of life is not what we perceive is all about us so much as, what we perceive ourselves to be really comes from what is already inside us… It all comes from within.
The human intellect is only capable of understanding fact or fiction.
One fact or a trillion makes no difference, it is still a mental state which goes nowhere, bringing the mind deeper into oblivion of accumulation not the reality of the moment— nor the heart—
There is a place of ‘Intuitive Value’ which far surpasses the intellect.
It is here in the Realized State of non-interference or neutrality, that is what people throughout the centuries have called the absolute truth is arrived at…
Art does not strive to be itself, nor should we have to—-
Badal Roy once told me, “Music does not know itself to be classical or jazz or this or that. It only knows when it is flowing-it does not even know itself to be music.”
Knowing oneself to be a human being in this sense may not be an advantage… this is how i have come to see life.
It would be just another fact based on symbols of understanding which can so easily be turned to misunderstanding.
So too art does not seek to make itself visible!
It does not know it is invisible to most people!
Art lives on the Living Edge of reality forever in the timeless pocket beyond the intellect.
Where else can pure creation exist from?
Paul Klee said—“Art does not render the visible rather it makes visible!”
So when we listen to events in this New Music devoid of the old theme & variation we are catapulted into a new reality beyond which the intellect can grasp. It is here the mind can find itself without attachments to the visible and tangible…

This is a 23 minute piece which was meant to be a part of a compilation including “This is a Blank!” for multiphasic voices chanting, a solo guitar piece “The Broken Guitar” and a1995 piece for toy musical instruments and wind up dolls playing percussive effects and a ‘Toy Piano’ with electronics…
The final piece for music boxes was lost and will be replaced in a new version to add to a new compilation.

While archiving recordings from tape a mix, went funny and what we … heard was a mixture of 50 unrelated tracks at once!
This is how “Reeling in the Shieves” came about—
I stopped everything and allowed it to play mesmerized by the cacophonous sound scape. I sat with it and delved into the space. I recalled the similar approach i had pioneered in the late 90s-Realizations.
It was not long before i was shaping the mix to a stereophonic image.
After some doing the piece you hear emerged in all its unexpected glory.
Without ever questioning i move forward with whatever the universe gives me making with it as it wills—
What better way to serve the music?
‘Reeling in the Shieves’ is retrieving sonorities which never existed.

Upon This Rock is one of the precursors to the “Realization” series.
It is along with “Whose Life is it Anyway?” a deep questioning of sanity … A calling out for meaning in the midst of uncertainty. It has to do with a deeply personal journey at that time.
I release this now as it seems to be the right time when true hearts are seeking to return to sanity.
Upon This Rock are countless nuances and delusions thereof come into being. The expression of the confused state seeking answers can in itself be awakening! Being in the moment of Realization- we do not have to have all the answers is a startling step forward in the understanding of who we are and where the heart is in even the most difficult trials.
Questions invariably lead us to more Questions– leaving us with the question, “Was the true Sanity we all desire to return to ever a reality we experienced?”

The la Coup de Gras is the final blow. The old French would have us believe this is an act of grace {hence “Gras”} however it is first an act of sorrow and mourning which often is entrenched in many other emotions! Here in this single piece set we feel them all!
The true Stroke of Grace is the act of mercy which can only be expressed in our feeling for each other!
Professor Milford the man was a true innovator. Not someone who played it safe! {Gotts Love that!} He went past the drums as we have been accustomed to. He went beyond cycles, beyond fixed measures and even past rhythm as is prescribed by any tradition! A True Original!
Pure! Free Expression minus all the mentally stifling academia. How else is the new tradition formed but by breaking with the old ones’ conforms?
He taught me/us to be yourself! After all there is no one else to be!
Being oneself is taking action from being in the present moment heart– it takes courage but it is the only thing really important-worth doing in the Arts.
Compliance to the Norms of predictable forms never reaps originality only the fabrication of more of more of the same ole Predictability. Mill’s contribution of fearlessness will be most remembered from the 60s with the likes of the greats- Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, Roswell Rudd, Amira Baraka, Andrew Cyrille, Rasheed Ali, and many more.
It ends an era of excellence: saying goodbye to Milford, Chick, to John Russell, to Toshnori Kondo, and to David Darling! It’s a sad day for those of us who knew them and doubly feel this loss! A not so sweet sorrow in parting—
It is in the memory of master drummer- our fellow traveler Professor Milford that “La Coup De Gras” is dedicated!

“It has long been what seemed to be an inaccessible goal, to create a … plethora of assembled ensemble works to be honed to express one voice.”
It is not the same as a classical piece from Literature whereby the Orchestra assembles to render a given work as a static set of sounds stiff and inflexible. There is a purpose for this and it is our historic tradition.
The ‘VOICED ‘sound is no longer separate from the other sounds.
The sound becomes a present being or a vibration a homo regenerative of all sounds happening at that moment.
Spontaneity is the key presiding over the scored ideas and the performance.
Direct apprehension of the sound source prior to scoring is one of the most valuable practice found in realizing music. Something that i took to immediately as a young student which i believe should be a commonly taught discipline since it is unknown in group playing, where Jazz Improvisation and the New Classical are one!

Upon Completion
With the set of newly programmed parameters ‘Ratioing’ came the breakthrough!
A long questioned possibility came to fruition—
A solution to integrating acoustic and electronically generated sound into a more satisfying cohesive whole of ‘Human Tonality!”
The ‘Realization’ process was always venturing in this direction although i never foresaw an actual solution in sight. By detuning certain frequencies at certain stages of their range, adding an effect to each—the timbre, attack, resonance, and pitch gets altered from the normal harmonic series- giving us a new formulation and perspective of feeling the sound event.
A variation of scents per semitone- varying and changing over the sound spectrum renders a unique balance of acoustic sources with electronically generated signals. Once mixed an indescribable something meshes in a natural metamorphosis of light and sound wave tapestry that comingle in a cohesive patterning.
A kind of “Painting with Sound” emerges when i play the mixing console like a musical instrument!
It is a new form: “Homophony” as exemplified in this 45 minute realization my newest piece.
